Pension

The Bible addresses provisions for those who serve in ministry, establishing the principle that workers deserve support for their labor and sustenance.

Overview

While the word 'pension' does not appear in Scripture, the Bible establishes the principle of providing for those who dedicate themselves to God's work. In Old Testament times, the Levites who served in the temple received designated portions and allotments to sustain them and their families, recognizing that full-time ministry workers deserve material support.

Key Scriptures

"Also, some of the sons of Asaph the singers were over the business of the house of the LORD; and Mattaniah, the head of them, was over the business of the house of the LORD" (2 Chronicles 31:17, ESV).

"And the portions due to the priests and the Levites by their divisions they gave to them, so that they might devote themselves to the Law of the LORD" (2 Chronicles 31:18, ESV).

"And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites when the Levites receive the tithes" (2 Chronicles 31:16, ESV).

Application

Churches should ensure fair compensation and care for those in vocational ministry so they can serve without distraction or financial hardship.
