Nehushta

Nehushta was the mother of King Jehoiachin of Judah during the final years before Jerusalem's exile to Babylon. She is briefly mentioned in the historical record of Judah's decline.

Overview

Nehushta was the wife of King Jehoiakim and mother of King Jehoiachin of Judah. She lived during one of the darkest periods in Judah's history, when the nation faced imminent judgment and exile under Babylonian rule. Though little is recorded about her personal life, her mention in Scripture highlights the families affected by national disobedience.

Key Scriptures

"Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. His mother's name was Nehushta daughter of Elnathan; she was from Jerusalem" (2 Kings 24:8, NIV).

Application

Nehushta's story reminds us that God's judgment on nations and leaders affects entire families, calling us to intercede for our leaders and support those impacted by the consequences of national sin.
