Overview
Throughout Scripture, munitions and weapons appear as tools of warfare and national defense. While the Bible does not condemn the existence or manufacture of weapons, it consistently directs believers toward faith in God's sovereign protection rather than confidence in military strength alone.
Key Scriptures
"Pile on the shields! Prepare the battering ram! Nahum the prophet declares that God strengthens Judah: 'The shields of his mighty men are made red; the soldiers are clothed in scarlet' (Nahum 2:3, NIV). However, the psalmist reminds us, 'Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God' (Psalm 20:7, NIV). Jesus taught His disciples that 'all who draw the sword will die by the sword' (Matthew 26:52, NIV), emphasizing the limits of military solutions.
Application
Believers should recognize that while nations may legitimately maintain defense, our ultimate security and confidence must rest in God's sovereignty and provision, not in the adequacy of our weapons or military might.
