Mocking

Mocking is the act of ridiculing or scorning others, which Scripture condemns as foolish and destructive. God promises to mock those who mock Him and warns believers to avoid this sin.

Overview

Mocking involves derision, contempt, or ridicule directed at others. The Bible presents mocking as a serious sin that hardens the heart, damages relationships, and invites God's judgment. Mockers are portrayed as fools who reject wisdom and instruction.

Key Scriptures

"I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear comes" (Proverbs 1:26, NASB). "A mocker seeks wisdom and finds none, but knowledge comes easily to the discerning" (Proverbs 14:6, NIV). "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows" (Galatians 6:7, NIV).

Application

Guard your speech carefully, refusing to mock others' beliefs, appearance, or struggles, and instead offer encouragement and truth spoken in love.
