Overview
Miserliness reflects a heart of greed and discontentment that contradicts biblical stewardship. Rather than enjoying God's provision or using wealth to bless others, the miser clutches money tightly, finding only emptiness in the pursuit. This selfish accumulation leaves one spiritually impoverished despite material gain.
Key Scriptures
"Again I saw all the oppressions that are done under the sun. And behold, the tears of the oppressed, and they have no one to comfort them! On the side of their oppressors there was power, and they have no one to comfort them" (Ecclesiastes 4:1, ESV).
"Again, I saw vanity under the sun: one person who has no other, either son or brother, yet there is no end to all his labor. His eyes are never satisfied with riches, and he never asks, 'For whom am I laboring and depriving myself of pleasure?' This too is vanity and a miserable business" (Ecclesiastes 4:8, ESV).
Application
Examine your heart regarding money—does it reflect contentment in Christ and generosity toward others, or selfish hoarding that leaves you spiritually empty?
