Mareshah

Mareshah was an ancient Judahite city in the Shephelah where King Asa of Judah defeated the Ethiopian army of Zerah, demonstrating God's deliverance through faith. This victory illustrates the principle that trust in God brings military and spiritual victory.

Overview

Mareshah was a fortified city in Judah's lowlands (Shephelah) that became the site of a significant military victory during King Asa's reign around 900 BC. When the vast Ethiopian army of Zerah invaded, Asa and his people cried out to God, and the Lord delivered them through a supernatural military victory at Mareshah, establishing Judah's security and spiritual renewal.

Key Scriptures

"Then Asa called to the LORD his God and said, 'LORD, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, LORD our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army'" (2 Chronicles 14:11, NIV).

"The LORD struck down the Cushites before Asa and his army, and they fled. Asa and his army pursued them as far as Mareshah" (2 Chronicles 14:12-13a, NIV).

Application

When facing overwhelming opposition, believers should follow Asa's example by crying out to God in prayer and trusting His name rather than relying on human strength alone.
