Overview
Jesus was born in a manger—an animal feeding trough—in Bethlehem, signifying His humble entrance into the world. Rather than being born in a palace or place of prominence, the eternal Son of God was laid in a manger, emphasizing that His kingdom is not of this world and that He came to serve rather than be served.
Key Scriptures
"And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn" (Luke 2:7, ESV).
"The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many" (Matthew 20:28, ESV).
"Though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant" (Philippians 2:6-7, ESV).
Application
Reflect on how Christ's humble birth challenges worldly values and calls believers to embrace servanthood and humility in following Him.
