Overview
Jesus Christ promised His disciples that He would return to complete God's redemptive plan. This return will be visible, bodily, and glorious, marked by the resurrection of the dead, final judgment, and the creation of new heavens and new earth where believers will dwell eternally with God.
Key Scriptures
"Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven" (Acts 1:11, ESV).
"For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first" (1 Thessalonians 4:16, ESV).
"Now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face" (1 Corinthians 13:12, NIV).
Application
Living with the expectation of Christ's return should motivate daily obedience, purity, and fervent proclamation of the Gospel.
