Malcham

Malcham (also spelled Molech) was a pagan deity worshipped through child sacrifice in ancient Near Eastern cultures, explicitly condemned in Scripture as an abomination against God.

Overview

Malcham was a false god associated with the Ammonites, whose worship involved passing children through fire as a sacrificial offering. The practice represented one of the gravest spiritual and moral corruptions Israel faced, combining idolatry with the shedding of innocent blood. God's law strictly prohibited such practices among His people.

Key Scriptures

"You shall not give any of your children to offer them to Molech, and so profane the name of your God: I am the Lord" (Leviticus 18:21, ESV).

"And you shall not let any of your offspring pass through the fire to Molech" (Leviticus 20:3, ESV).

"They have built the high places of Tophet...to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, which I did not command, nor did it come into my mind" (Jeremiah 7:31, ESV).

Application

Believers must guard against any compromise with worldly values that devalue human life or lead us away from exclusive worship of the true God.
