Overview
Libni (also spelled Libnites) was a son of Gershon and grandson of Levi, making him part of the foundational priestly line of Israel. His descendants, the Libnites, were assigned specific duties in caring for the tabernacle and later the temple, demonstrating God's intentional organization of worship.
Key Scriptures
"The sons of Gershon were Libni and Shimei, according to their families" (Numbers 3:21, ESV). "The sons of Levi according to their families were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari" (Numbers 3:17, NASB). "And the chief of the house of the father of the Gershonites was Eliasaph the son of Lael" (Numbers 3:24, NIV).
Application
As believers, we can reflect on how God called specific individuals and families to serve Him with excellence and purpose, reminding us that our own roles in God's kingdom—whether visible or behind-the-scenes—contribute to His glory when performed faithfully.
