Legion

The return of Legion refers to the demon-possessed man of Gerasenes who, after being healed by Jesus, became a witness to the power of Christ in the Decapolis region.

Overview

After Jesus cast out a legion of demons from a man in the Gerasenes region, the formerly demon-possessed man begged to follow Jesus. Instead, Jesus instructed him to return home and testify to his family and community about God's mercy. This man became an evangelist in the Decapolis, proclaiming what Jesus had done for him.

Key Scriptures

"Jesus said to him, 'Return home and tell how much God has done for you.' So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him" (Luke 8:39, NIV).

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19, NIV).

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8, NIV).

Application

Our personal testimony of God's transformative power is one of the most compelling witnesses we can share with those around us.
