Overview
Jesus promised His disciples that He would return to complete God's redemptive plan. His return will be visible, bodily, and sudden, culminating in the final judgment and the creation of a new heaven and earth where believers will dwell with God forever.
Key Scriptures
"For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God" (1 Thessalonians 4:16, ESV).
"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne" (Matthew 25:31, NIV).
"But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body" (Philippians 3:20-21, ESV).
Application
Living with the reality of Christ's return should purify your conduct, deepen your faith, and compel you to share the gospel urgently with those still separated from God.
