Lecah

Lecah (also spelled Leah) was the first wife of Jacob and mother of six of his twelve sons, whose name means 'weary.' Her story illustrates God's sovereignty in directing family lines and His compassion for the unloved.

Overview

Leah was the elder daughter of Laban whom Jacob was deceived into marrying instead of her younger sister Rachel. Though initially unwanted by Jacob, God blessed Leah with children and ultimately honored her as a matriarch of Israel. Her life demonstrates that God sees the overlooked and uses them in His redemptive purposes.

Key Scriptures

"When the Lord saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren" (Genesis 29:31, ESV). "These are the sons of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob in Paddan-aram, with his daughter Dinah; altogether his sons and daughters numbered thirty-three" (Genesis 46:15, ESV). "So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed to him but a few days because of the love he had for her" (Genesis 29:20, ESV).

Application

Trust that God sees your pain and position, and He works through all circumstances—even rejection and disappointment—to accomplish His sovereign purposes in your life.
