Kolaiah

Kolaiah was a false prophet during Jeremiah's time who led people astray with lying visions and deceived hearts. His account serves as a warning against those who speak presumptuously in God's name.

Overview

Kolaiah is mentioned in Jeremiah 29:21-23 as one of two false prophets (along with Ahab) who deceived the Jewish exiles in Babylon. These men spoke lies in God's name, claiming to have divine visions while actually promoting unfaithfulness and moral compromise among God's people.

Key Scriptures

"I am against the prophets who steal my words from one another. I am against the prophets who wag their own tongues and yet declare, 'The LORD declares.'" (Jeremiah 23:30-31, NIV)

"Therefore thus says the LORD concerning Ahab the son of Kolaiah and Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, who are prophesying to you a lie: Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he shall strike them down before your eyes." (Jeremiah 29:21, ESV)

Application

Test all spiritual teachings against Scripture alone, as false prophets continue to deceive through charismatic words and unauthorized claims of divine insight.
