Overview
Christ's return is a central promise of the New Testament and a foundational doctrine of Christian faith. Jesus Himself promised to come again, and the apostles consistently taught that believers should live in anticipation of this event, which will culminate human history as we know it and bring final judgment and eternal reward.
Key Scriptures
"Jesus said to them, 'Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.'" (Matthew 19:28, NASB)
"For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first." (1 Thessalonians 4:16, NASB)
"Now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known." (1 Corinthians 13:12, NIV)
