Kirjath-Sannah

Kirjath-Sannah was an ancient city in Judah, also known as Debir, that was assigned to the Levitical priests and later became a city of refuge.

Overview

Kirjath-Sannah (also spelled Kirjath-Sepher) was located in the hill country of Judah and served as an important administrative and religious center in ancient Israel. The city was captured by Caleb and given to the Levites for their service to God. It later functioned as one of Israel's cities of refuge, providing protection for those who committed unintentional manslaughter.

Key Scriptures

"And Caleb drove out the three sons of Anak from there: Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak" (Joshua 15:14, ESV). "And to the sons of Aaron the priest they gave the cities of refuge: Hebron, Libnah with its pasturelands, Jattir, Esthemoa with its pasturelands, Holon with its pasturelands, Debir with its pasturelands" (Joshua 21:13-14, ESV). "Debir belonged to the tribe of Judah in the Negev" (Joshua 15:49, NIV).

Application

Reflect on how God provides places of safety and refuge for His people, both physically in ancient Israel and spiritually through Christ's redemptive work today.
