Juniper Tree

The juniper tree appears in Scripture as a place of refuge and divine provision during times of spiritual exhaustion and despair. It symbolizes God's care for His servants in their weakest moments.

Overview

The juniper tree is mentioned in the account of the prophet Elijah's flight into the wilderness after confronting King Ahab and Queen Jezebel. Exhausted and afraid, Elijah sought shelter under this desert plant, where God miraculously sustained him through provision and rest. This narrative illustrates how God meets His servants in their deepest need.

Key Scriptures

"Then he lay down under a juniper tree and fell asleep. And behold, an angel touched him and said to him, 'Arise and eat.' And he looked, and behold, there was at his head a cake baked on hot stones and a jar of water. And he ate and drank and lay down again." (1 Kings 19:5-6, ESV)

"But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a juniper tree. And he asked that he might die, saying, 'It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.'" (1 Kings 19:4, ESV)
