Jozachar

Jozachar was one of the servants who assassinated King Joash of Judah, fulfilling God's judgment upon the king for his apostasy and murder of the prophet Zechariah.

Overview

Jozachar, also known as Zabad, was a servant in the household of King Joash of Judah. Along with Jehozabad, he conspired to kill the king in retribution for Joash's rejection of God and his role in the death of Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest. This assassination became God's instrument of judgment upon a king who had turned from righteousness.

Key Scriptures

"So they conspired against him, and by the command of the king they stoned him with stones in the court of the house of the LORD" (2 Kings 12:20, ESV).

"Now the servants of Joash rose up and made a conspiracy and struck down Joash in the house of Millo" (2 Kings 12:20, NASB).

"And when they had finished, they left him severely wounded. Then his servants conspired against him because of the blood of the son of Jehoiada the priest" (2 Chronicles 24:25, NIV).

Application

This account reminds us that those who reject God's prophets and turn from His ways face His judgment, whether through natural consequences or divine intervention.
