Jordan, the River

The Jordan River served as a natural barrier between the Israelites and the Promised Land, which God miraculously parted to allow His people to cross on dry ground. This crossing demonstrated God's power and became a memorial of His faithfulness to future generations.

Overview

The Jordan River crossing recorded in Joshua 3-4 stands as one of Scripture's most dramatic demonstrations of God's power and covenant faithfulness. When the Israelites approached the swollen river during harvest season, God stopped the waters upstream, allowing the entire nation to cross on dry ground. Joshua commanded twelve men to take stones from the riverbed as a memorial.

Key Scriptures

"Joshua said to the Israelites, 'Come here and listen to the words of the Lord your God. This is how you will know that the living God is among you'" (Joshua 3:9-10, NIV).

"So the people shout when the priests blew on the trumpets. And when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted with a great shout, and the wall fell down flat" (Joshua 6:20, ESV) demonstrates continued faith after crossing.

Application

Just as God removed obstacles for Israel, believers can trust Him to guide them through seemingly impossible circumstances when they follow Him in faith.
