Jonan

Jonah's return to Nineveh demonstrates God's persistence in calling His servants and the power of repentance. Though Jonah initially fled God's command, he ultimately obeyed and witnessed one of Scripture's greatest revivals.

Overview

After being preserved in the great fish, Jonah rose from the depths as a living sign of God's mercy and resurrection power. He finally obeyed God's call to preach repentance to Nineveh, and the entire city—from the greatest to the least—repented in sackcloth and ashes, turning from their evil ways.

Key Scriptures

"And the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying, 'Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it the message that I tell you'" (Jonah 3:1-2, ESV).

"Then the word of God came to Dagon: 'Should I not have compassion on Nineveh, the great city in which there are more than 120,000 persons who do not know the difference between their right and left hand, as well as many animals?'" (Jonah 4:11, NASB).

Application

When God calls you to a difficult task, obedience—however delayed—brings blessing not only to yourself but to countless others seeking redemption.
