Jimnah

Jimnah (also spelled Jimna or Imnah) was a son of Asher in the Old Testament, representing one of the tribal families of Israel. Little is directly recorded about him personally, but his lineage is significant for understanding Israel's tribal structure.

Overview

Jimnah was the firstborn son of Asher, one of Jacob's twelve sons (Genesis 46:17). His descendants formed the Jimnite family within the tribe of Asher. Though few details about his individual life are provided in Scripture, his genealogical record indicates his importance in Israel's tribal heritage and census records.

Key Scriptures

"The sons of Asher after their families were: of Jimna, the family of the Jimnites" (Numbers 26:44, ESV). "And the sons of Asher; Jimnah, and Ishuah, and Isui, and Beriah, and Serah their sister" (Genesis 46:17, KJV). "Of the sons of Asher after their generations, by their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war" (Numbers 1:40, ESV).

Application

Studying the genealogies reminds us that God knows and values every person, recording even those with limited biblical narratives in His perfect history of redemption.
