Jered

Jered (also spelled Jared) was a pre-flood patriarch who lived 962 years and was the father of Enoch, the man who walked with God and was taken up without experiencing death.

Overview

Jered was the fourth generation descendant of Adam through Seth. He fathered Enoch at age 162 and lived during the antediluvian period when lifespans were exceptionally long. His son Enoch became one of only two people in Scripture to enter heaven without dying, having walked faithfully with God.

Key Scriptures

"When Jared had lived 162 years, he fathered Enoch. Jared lived after he fathered Enoch 800 years and had other sons and daughters. Thus all the days of Jared were 962 years, and he died" (Genesis 5:18-20, ESV).

"Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him" (Genesis 5:24, ESV).

Application

Jered's legacy reminds us that faithfulness in one generation can produce spiritual fruit in the next, as his son Enoch became a model of devoted obedience to God.
