Jarmuth

Jarmuth was a Canaanite city in Judah whose king was defeated by Joshua during the conquest of Canaan. It serves as an example of God's judgment against pagan nations and His faithfulness to Israel.

Overview

Jarmuth was one of the five Amorite cities whose kings allied against Joshua and Israel. After the miraculous victory at Gibeon, Joshua pursued and defeated these kings, including the king of Jarmuth, demonstrating God's power over Israel's enemies and His commitment to the promised land.

Key Scriptures

"When Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem heard how Joshua had taken Ai and had devoted it to destruction, doing to Ai and its king as he had done to Jericho and its king, and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel and were among them, he feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, like one of the royal cities." (Joshua 10:1-2, ESV)

"Joshua said in the sight of all Israel, 'Sun, stand still at Gibeon, and moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.' And the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, until the nation took vengeance on their enemies." (Joshua 10:12-13, ESV)

Application
