Overview
Jarha was an Egyptian slave who served Sheshan, a descendant of Judah. Despite his foreign origin and servile status, Jarha rose to prominence in Sheshan's household and married his master's daughter, becoming part of the genealogical line of Judah. His story illustrates God's grace extended beyond Israel's ethnic boundaries and shows how faith and faithfulness transcend social hierarchy.
Key Scriptures
"Sheshan had no sons, only daughters. Sheshan had an Egyptian servant named Jarha. Sheshan said to Jarha, 'Take my daughter as your wife, and I will treat you as a son.'" (1 Chronicles 2:34-35, NIV)
"So Jarha took Sheshan's daughter as his wife, and she bore him Attai." (1 Chronicles 2:35, ESV)
Application
Jarha's inclusion in Judah's genealogy reminds believers that God values faithfulness and character over social status or ethnic origin, challenging us to extend genuine acceptance and opportunity to those society overlooks.
