Jahaziel

Jahaziel was a Levite who delivered a prophetic message from God to King Jehoshaphat during a military crisis, encouraging trust in the Lord's deliverance rather than human strength.

Overview

Jahaziel, a descendant of Asaph, appears in 2 Chronicles 20 as a prophet through whom God spoke encouragement to Judah. When King Jehoshaphat faced an overwhelming military threat from allied armies, God moved upon Jahaziel to proclaim that the battle belonged to the Lord and that His people would be delivered without needing to fight.

Key Scriptures

"Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, son of Benaiah, son of Jeiel, son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, in the middle of the assembly. And he said, 'Listen, all Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem and King Jehoshaphat: Thus says the LORD to you, "Do not fear or be dismayed at this great horde, for the battle is not yours but God's."' (2 Chronicles 20:14-15, ESV)

"You will not need to fight in this battle. Stand firm, hold your position, and see the salvation of the LORD on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem." (2 Chronicles 20:17, ESV)

Application

When facing overwhelming circumstances, believers should seek God's direction and trust His promises rather than relying solely on human resources.
