Overview
Izri (also spelled Zeri) was one of the sons of Jeduthun, a chief musician under King David. He was specifically appointed to lead the fourth division of musicians who provided music and worship in the tabernacle, serving in a scheduled rotation alongside other qualified Levites.
Key Scriptures
"The fourth lot fell to Izri, his sons and his relatives: 12" (1 Chronicles 25:11, NASB). "These were the divisions of the gatekeepers: Of the Korahites, Meshelemiah the son of Kore, of the sons of Asaph" (1 Chronicles 26:1, NASB). The Levites were appointed specifically "to have charge of the work of the house of the Lord" (1 Chronicles 23:28, ESV).
Application
Izri's example demonstrates that worship leadership requires specific calling and faithful service in an appointed role, reminding us that God values both the gifts of worship and the obedience of those who lead others in praising Him.
