The return of Christ, also called the Second Coming or Parousia, is Christ's promised return to earth to judge the living and the dead and to establish His eternal kingdom. This foundational Christian doctrine calls believers to watchfulness, holy living, and confident hope.

Overview

Jesus promised His disciples that He would return to complete God's redemptive plan. This return will include the resurrection of the dead, final judgment, and the creation of new heavens and new earth where God's people will dwell eternally in His presence. Believers are called to live in anticipation of this certain future event.

Key Scriptures

"For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first" (1 Thessalonians 4:16, ESV).

"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne" (Matthew 25:31, NIV).

"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come" (Matthew 24:42, NIV).

Application

Let the certainty of Christ's return motivate you to pursue holiness, share the gospel urgently, and fix your hope firmly on eternity rather than temporal concerns.
