Overview
Ibhar (also spelled Ibri) was one of David's sons born to him in Jerusalem after he became king over all Israel. He is listed among David's children born during his time in the capital city, though he is not mentioned as playing a significant role in the kingdom's affairs or succession.
Key Scriptures
"These were born to him in Jerusalem: Shimea, Shobab, Nathan and Solomon, four by Bath-shua, the daughter of Ammiel; then Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet, Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia, Elishama, Eliada and Eliphelet, nine in all" (1 Chronicles 3:5-6, ESV).
"And these were born to him in Jerusalem: Shammuah, Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon, four by Bath-shua, the daughter of Ammiel; then Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet, Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia, Elishama, Eliada, and Eliphelet—nine in all" (1 Chronicles 14:4-5, ESV).
Application
Ibhar's mention in Scripture reminds us that God records the ordinary details of faithful believers' lives, and that not every member of God's family must hold a prominent public role to be valuable in His kingdom.
