Overview
Hoglah was one of five daughters of Zelophehad from the tribe of Manasseh. When their father died without sons, these daughters petitioned Moses for their rightful inheritance in Canaan. God affirmed their request, establishing a legal precedent that women could inherit land when no male heirs existed, demonstrating the justice and fairness of God's law.
Key Scriptures
"Then came the daughters of Zelophehad... and they stood before Moses and before Eleazar the priest and before the leaders and all the congregation... 'Why should the name of our father be done away from among his family, because he had no son? Give to us a possession among the brothers of our father'" (Numbers 27:2-4, ESV).
"If a man dies and has no son, then you shall cause his inheritance to pass to his daughter" (Numbers 27:8, NASB).
Application
Hoglah's example encourages believers to advocate boldly for justice and trust that God honors those who seek His fair judgment in difficult circumstances.
