Hodaiah

Hodaiah (also called Hodaviah) was a Levite who returned from Babylonian exile and helped rebuild the temple and Jerusalem's religious community. His family's return exemplifies God's faithfulness in restoring His people after judgment.

Overview

Hodaiah appears in the records of those who returned from exile under Zerubbabel and Jeshua. As a Levite, he was set apart for temple service and played a vital role in the restoration of worship in Jerusalem after the Babylonian captivity ended.

Key Scriptures

"The sons of Judah, Benjamin, and the priests and the Levites—everyone whose spirit God had stirred to go up and rebuild the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem" (Ezra 1:5, NASB).

"The Levites: the sons of Jeshua and Kadmiel, of the sons of Hodaviah, seventy-four" (Ezra 2:40, NASB).

"These are the priests and the Levites who went up with Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel" (Nehemiah 12:1, ESV).

Application

Hodaiah's return reminds us that God preserves a faithful remnant through judgment and restores His people to worship and service when they respond to His calling.
