Overview
After Lot was taken captive by four invading kings, Abram gathered 318 trained men and pursued them north to Hobah. Though the exact location remains uncertain, Hobah was evidently far north of Canaan, near Damascus. Abram's successful rescue of Lot demonstrates God's faithfulness to protect His covenant family and validates Abram's willingness to use force for righteous purposes.
Key Scriptures
"When Abram heard that his relative had been taken captive, he led out his trained men, born in his house, 318 of them, and went in pursuit as far as Dan. And he divided his forces against them by night, he and his servants, and defeated them and pursued them to Hobah, which is north of Damascus" (Genesis 14:14-15, ESV).
"Then he brought back all the goods, and also brought back his relative Lot and his possessions, and the women and the people" (Genesis 14:16, ESV).
Application
