Hilen

Hilen (also spelled Hilon) was a Levitical city in the hill country of Ephraim assigned to the sons of Kohath during Israel's settlement of Canaan.

Overview

Hilen was one of several cities designated as a refuge and dwelling place for the Levites, who had no territorial inheritance of their own but received cities throughout Israel's territory. As a Kohathite city, it served the priestly and worship functions of that Levitical division. The city's assignment reflects God's provision for those set apart for temple service.

Key Scriptures

"From the tribe of Ephraim they were given Shechem (a city of refuge for the one who kills someone) and Gezer, Jokmeam, Beth Horon, Aijalon and Gath Rimmon, together with their pasturelands" (1 Chronicles 6:73, NIV). "These were the allocations for the descendants of Aaron" (1 Chronicles 6:61, NIV).

Application

Remember that God ensures provision for those devoted to His service, and consider how your own gifts and resources might support those called to ministry today.
