Henadad

Henadad was a Levite who led workers in rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem after the Babylonian exile, demonstrating faithful service in God's restoration work.

Overview

Henadad appears in Nehemiah's account as a Levite overseer who supervised construction crews during the rebuilding of Jerusalem's walls. His name means 'favor of Hadad,' and he is mentioned alongside other leaders coordinating the massive reconstruction project that symbolized Israel's spiritual renewal and God's faithfulness to His covenant people.

Key Scriptures

"Next to him the Levites under Binnui son of Henadad repaired another section" (Nehemiah 3:18, NIV). "And the Levites: Jeshua son of Azaniah, Binnui of the sons of Henadad, Kadmiel" (Nehemiah 10:9, NASB). "The rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, the temple servants and all who separated themselves from the peoples of the lands to the Law of God" (Nehemiah 10:28, ESV).

Application

Like Henadad, believers should faithfully use their God-given abilities to serve in the church's mission and community restoration, recognizing that meaningful work serves God's larger purposes.
