Heldai

Heldai was one of the Jewish exiles who returned from Babylon to Jerusalem, representing God's faithfulness in restoring His people. His return exemplifies the fulfillment of God's promise to bring His people back to the land after exile.

Overview

Heldai (also called Heladai) was among the Jewish exiles who returned from Babylonian captivity under Zerubbabel's leadership in the late 6th century BC. His inclusion in the genealogical records of those who returned demonstrates God's preservation of His covenant people and the restoration of Jerusalem after seventy years of exile.

Key Scriptures

"The following are the people of the province who came up out of the captivity of those exiles whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away to Babylon (they returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his own city)" (Ezra 2:1, ESV).

"So the elders of the Jews built and prospered through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. And they finished their building by decree of the God of Israel and by decree of Cyrus and Darius and Artaxerxes king of Persia" (Ezra 6:14, ESV).

Application

Recognize that God remains faithful to His promises across generations, using even exile and return to accomplish His purposes of redemption and restoration.
