Helbah

Helbah was a city in the tribe of Asher that the Israelites failed to fully conquer and occupy during the conquest of Canaan. This incomplete obedience became a pattern of spiritual compromise throughout Israel's history.

Overview

Helbah was located in the territory allotted to the tribe of Asher but remained under Canaanite control because the Israelites did not fully drive out its inhabitants. This failure to complete God's commands for total possession of the promised land became emblematic of Israel's recurring disobedience and compromise with pagan peoples.

Key Scriptures

"Asher did not drive out the inhabitants of Acco, or the inhabitants of Sidon or of Ahlab or of Achzib or of Helbah or of Aphik or of Rehob" (Judges 1:31, ESV).

"So the Lord's anger was kindled against Israel, and he gave them over to plunderers, who plundered them. And he sold them into the hand of their surrounding enemies, so that they could no longer withstand their enemies" (Judges 2:14, ESV).

Application

Believers must fully obey God's commands rather than compromise with worldly influences, recognizing that partial obedience leads to spiritual defeat and distance from God's blessing.
