Hazezon-Tamar

Hazezon-Tamar (also called En-Gedi) was an oasis settlement on the western shore of the Dead Sea where King Asa of Judah defeated a massive Cushite army through faith in God's deliverance.

Overview

Hazezon-Tamar, meaning "pruning of the palm tree," was a strategic oasis near the Dead Sea also known as En-Gedi. During King Asa's reign, the Cushite king Zerah invaded Judah with an enormous army, but Asa called upon the Lord for help, resulting in a miraculous victory that demonstrated God's faithfulness to those who trust in Him completely.

Key Scriptures

"Then Asa called to the Lord his God and said, 'Lord, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, O Lord our God, for we rely on you' (2 Chronicles 14:11, NIV).

"The Lord struck down the Cushites before Asa and Judah. The Cushites fled, and Asa and his army pursued them as far as Gerar" (2 Chronicles 14:12-13, ESV).

Application

When facing overwhelming opposition, believers should follow Asa's example by crying out to God in prayer and trusting His power rather than relying on human strength or resources.
