Overview
Scripture uses the metaphor of harlotry to describe unfaithfulness to God's covenant. Just as an unfaithful spouse breaks trust, believers who abandon God for idolatry, false teachings, or worldly pursuits commit spiritual harlotry. The danger of returning to such unfaithfulness after knowing God's truth is particularly grave.
Key Scriptures
"They committed harlotry in Egypt; they committed harlotry in their youth. There their breasts were pressed and their virgin bosom was handled" (Ezekiel 23:3, NASB).
"Therefore, behold, I will allure her, bring her into the wilderness, and speak kindly to her" (Hosea 2:14, NASB).
"For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first" (2 Peter 2:20, NASB).
Application
Guard your heart vigilantly against returning to sin after experiencing God's grace, remembering that apostasy carries greater judgment than initial ignorance.
