Hanniel

Hanniel (also spelled Haniel) was a Levite gatekeeper in David's tabernacle service, representing faithful service in worship. His name means 'God is gracious,' reflecting the character of devoted temple workers.

Overview

Hanniel was one of the Levites appointed by David to serve as a gatekeeper at the tent of meeting (1 Chronicles 15:23). He participated in the significant event of bringing the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem, serving alongside other appointed musicians and gatekeepers who facilitated Israel's worship.

Key Scriptures

"And Berechiah and Elkanah were gatekeepers for the ark. Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, were to blow the trumpets before the ark of God. Obed-edom and Jehiah were gatekeepers for the ark." (1 Chronicles 15:23-24, ESV)

"So David assembled all Israel to bring up the ark of the Lord to its place, which he had prepared for it." (1 Chronicles 15:3, ESV)

Application

Hanniel's faithful service in a seemingly humble role reminds us that all vocations dedicated to God's worship and His people carry eternal significance, regardless of prominence.
