Hamul

Hamul was the son of Perez and grandson of Judah, whose descendants formed one of the major tribal families of Israel. His lineage is significant in Israel's genealogical and tribal structure.

Overview

Hamul was born to Perez and Zerah's twin brother in the line of Judah (Genesis 38). His family, the Hamulites, became one of the prominent clans within the tribe of Judah and played a role in Israel's tribal organization during the wilderness wanderings and settlement of Canaan.

Key Scriptures

"The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul" (1 Chronicles 2:5, ESV). "The families of the sons of Judah according to their numbering were: of Shelah, the family of the Shelani; of Perez, the family of the Perezites; of the sons of Perez: of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites; of Hamul, the family of the Hamulites" (Numbers 26:20-21, NASB).

Application

Understanding Hamul's place in Israel's genealogy reminds us that God's promises to Abraham were fulfilled through specific family lines, demonstrating His faithfulness across generations.
