Overview
Hakkoz was a priestly family in Israel, and his descendants are mentioned among those who returned from Babylonian captivity. However, some of Hakkoz's descendants could not prove their genealogy and were therefore excluded from priestly service until a definitive answer could be given (Ezra 2:61-62). This situation reveals how seriously God's people took the purity and legitimacy of priestly lineage for temple worship.
Key Scriptures
"These searched among their ancestral registration, but they were not found recorded; therefore they were considered unclean and excluded from the priesthood" (Ezra 2:62, NASB).
"And some of the sons of the priests...sought their registration among those genealogized by genealogy, but it was not found; therefore they were deemed unclean and excluded from the priesthood" (Nehemiah 7:64, NASB).
Application
