Overview
Gilalai is mentioned only once in Scripture as one of the priests who participated in the dedication ceremony of the rebuilt walls of Jerusalem following the return from exile. This event occurred during Nehemiah's governorship and demonstrated the restoration of worship and community life among the returned Israelites.
Key Scriptures
"And at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought the Levites in all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem to celebrate the dedication with gladness" (Nehemiah 12:27, ESV). "And Gilalai, Maai, Nethanel, and Judah, Hanani, with the musical instruments of David the man of God" (Nehemiah 12:36, NASB).
Application
Gilalai's participation reminds us that returning to God's purposes requires faithful leaders who dedicate themselves to corporate worship and the rebuilding of spiritual foundations in their communities.
