Galatia

Galatia was a region in central Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey) where Paul established churches and later wrote his epistle to correct false teachings about salvation by faith alone in Christ.

Overview

Galatia was a province in central Asia Minor inhabited by Celtic people. Paul visited this region during his missionary journeys and planted churches among both Jews and Gentiles. The book of Galatians was written to these churches to defend the gospel of justification by faith in Christ alone against the false doctrine that circumcision and works of the law were necessary for salvation.

Key Scriptures

"Paul, an apostle—sent not from men nor by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead" (Galatians 1:1, ESV).

"To the churches of Galatia: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ" (Galatians 1:2, ESV).

"I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel" (Galatians 1:6, ESV).

Application

Like the Galatians, remain vigilant against teachings that add human works to faith in Christ as the basis for salvation and acceptance with God.
