Galal

Galal (???) means to roll or remove, often used in Scripture to describe God rolling away shame, sin, or obstacles from His people. This concept emphasizes God's power to completely remove barriers between believers and His purposes.

Overview

The Hebrew word galal appears throughout Scripture to describe the divine action of rolling away impediments. Most notably, Joshua 5:9 records God rolling away the reproach of Egypt from Israel after their wilderness wandering. This removal was both literal (the old generation) and spiritual (shame and disgrace), marking a fresh beginning in God's purposes.

Key Scriptures

"And the LORD said to Joshua, 'Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.' Therefore, the name of that place is called Gilgal to this day." (Joshua 5:9, ESV)

"Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7, ESV) - while using different terminology, conveys the same principle of releasing burdens to God.

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9, ESV)

Application

Believers can trust that God actively removes the shame of past sin and failure, enabling fresh obedience and forward progress in the Christian life.
