Flies

The plague of flies demonstrates God's power over creation and His judgment against Egypt's rebellion. This account reveals God's patience with pharaoh while executing His will to free Israel.

Overview

The fourth plague of Egypt involved swarms of flies that infested the land, causing great distress to the Egyptian people and their livestock. God distinctly protected the land of Goshen where the Israelites lived, demonstrating His sovereignty and care for His covenant people. Pharaoh repeatedly promised to let Israel go but hardened his heart, showing the futility of human resistance against God's purposes.

Key Scriptures

Else, if you will not let my people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies on you and your servants and your people, and into your houses'" (Exodus 8:20-21, ESV).

"But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, where my people dwell, so that no swarms of flies shall be there, that you may know that I am the Lord in the midst of the earth" (Exodus 8:22, ESV).
