Overview
Throughout Scripture, God promised the descendants of Abraham a permanent homeland. After the Babylonian exile (586 BC), God restored a remnant to rebuild Jerusalem and the temple, fulfilling prophecies of return. Many evangelicals see additional fulfillment in the modern return of Jewish people to Israel in 1948, though interpretations vary among Christians regarding end-times significance.
Key Scriptures
"I will bring your offspring from the east, and gather you from the west. I will say to the north, 'Give them up!' and to the south, 'Do not hold them back.' Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth" (Isaiah 43:5-6, NIV).
"The days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will bring back the captives of my people Israel and Judah. I will restore them to the land I gave to their ancestors and they will possess it again, says the Lord" (Jeremiah 30:3, NIV).
