Overview
Ephratah (also spelled Ephrath) was a region in Judah closely connected to Bethlehem. The name appears throughout Scripture as a marker of God's covenant purposes, particularly regarding the lineage of David and the coming Messiah. This area held deep spiritual significance for God's people.
Key Scriptures
"But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village among all the people of Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel will come from you, one whose origins are from the distant past" (Micah 5:2, NLT).
"Now David was the son of an Ephrathite of Bethlehem in Judah, named Jesse" (1 Samuel 17:12, ESV).
"So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife. When he went in to her, the Lord gave her conception, and she bore a son... And the women said to Naomi, 'Blessed be the Lord, who has not left you this day without a redeemer'" (Ruth 4:13-14, ESV).
Application
Reflect on how God's promises to David's line culminated in Christ, encouraging confidence in God's faithful fulfillment of His covenant promises to us.
