Overview
Christ's return is a foundational doctrine affirmed throughout Scripture. Jesus promised His disciples that He would come again, and the early church lived in anticipation of this blessed hope. The return will be accompanied by the resurrection of the dead, final judgment, and the establishment of God's eternal kingdom where believers will dwell with Him forever.
Key Scriptures
"Jesus said to them, 'Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel'" (Matthew 19:28, NASB).
"For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first" (1 Thessalonians 4:16, NASB).
"Now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face" (1 Corinthians 13:12, NIV).
Application
Living with expectation of Christ's return should motivate holy living, faithful witness, and patient endurance through present trials.
