Overview
Elisha succeeded Elijah as God's prophet in Israel, continuing a powerful ministry of miracles, counsel, and confrontation with evil. Though operating in an increasingly apostate nation, Elisha remained faithful to God's calling, performing healings, providing for the poor, and directing Israel's kings toward God's purposes.
Key Scriptures
"And Elisha said, 'Hear the word of the Lord: Thus says the Lord, Tomorrow about this time a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria'" (2 Kings 7:1, ESV).
"Now Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master and in high favor, because by him the Lord had given victory to Syria. He was a mighty man of valor, but he was a leper" (2 Kings 5:1, ESV).
"So Elisha died, and they buried him" (2 Kings 13:20, ESV).
