Eliseus

Eliseus (Elisha) was the successor prophet to Elijah in ancient Israel, called to continue God's work and perform miracles among God's people. His ministry spanned decades and demonstrated God's faithfulness and power through signs, wonders, and prophetic guidance.

Overview

Elisha succeeded the prophet Elijah after being called from his plowing work (1 Kings 19:19-21). He served as God's prophet in Israel for approximately 60 years, performing numerous miracles and providing spiritual leadership during the reigns of multiple kings. His ministry emphasized God's compassion and power over the forces of evil.

Key Scriptures

"Then he took up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan." (2 Kings 2:13, NASB)

"So Elisha died, and they buried him." (2 Kings 13:20, ESV)
