As Christians, we understand that everything we have—including our time, talents, and financial resources—belongs to God and should be stewarded wisely. First Peter 4:10 reminds us, "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms." College represents a significant investment of time and resources, and it should be pursued with clear purpose. Before enrolling, students and families should prayerfully consider whether post-secondary education aligns with God's calling on their lives and how it will equip them to serve others.
Romans 12:2 offers crucial guidance: "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." The college years present both wonderful opportunities for growth and significant cultural pressures. Maintaining a renewed mind—one centered on Christ—helps students navigate complex ideas, secular philosophies, and worldly values they will encounter. This requires intentional spiritual disciplines and community with other believers.
Practical Wisdom for Students and Families
As you consider or pursue college, remember that education is a gift to be stewarded faithfully. Seek the Lord's guidance through prayer, consult with mature believers and mentors, and choose an environment where your faith can flourish alongside your academic growth. Find campus ministry communities, connect with Christian professors when possible, and don't isolate your faith from your studies. Your education should ultimately serve God's kingdom and equip you to impact the world for Christ.
